About Our Church

St Joseph’s church was officially opened in July 1966 as a chapel at ease to St Mary’s Hornby . It is still linked to St Mary’s today and to Our Lady’s Caton by our priest Canon Luiz Ruscillo who is also Head of Education for Lancaster Diocese

Fr Luiz has brought a calming stability of Catholic traditionalism to St Joseph’s, creating a lively liturgy with his special brand of energy, charisma and passion. He has a unique gift for enthusing the young , and as a brilliant Scripture scholar and a man of prayer and Marian devotion, he is an inspirational preacher

The parish has links with Malawi, started by Bishop Hardman who was parish priest of St Joseph’s from 1976-1994. Over the last 25 years we have helped to build 15 houses, a school and a library in the parishes of Namitembo and Sitima in the diocese of Zomba. September is our fund raising month and we know that every penny we raise goes directly to help the people in Malawi

The congregation of St Josephs has risen in recent years, resulting in renovations to create 12 more seats, a new Sacristy and a meeting room. There is a choir and music at the 9.00 Sunday morning Mass and a warm welcome extended  to both visitors and new parishioners at the service and at coffee afterwards

Fr Luiz runs a popular youth group for all 3 parishes
